Yow CeeeDeee and Punkin Muffins

Last month, Daniel was having a hard time relaxing for nap.  I put a Jack Johnson CD on, and he settled.  In the last month, we've noticed him humming along with the music, and he often demands YOW CeeDeee!! (yellow cd!) when we've having a difficult bedtime.

This morning I went into Daniel's room at 7 because I heard him singing.  We greeted each other, and he said he wanted to stay in bed.  He asked me to put the Yow Cee Dee on and said he would stay in bed for awhile.  I left him be, but listened to him sing from the next room.

At 8 I went in, and we spent time talking to each other.  It was a neat way for him to get back into the swing of things since he had been away from his house since Wednesday night.

We cuddled and rocked, read a book, and decided to make a triple batch of muffins.  Daniel requested Punkin muffins, and got the ingredients out for me.  He got out a can of pumpkin from the pantry - which he called punkin pie can - and then got out the baking soda - which he called bacon sue dah - and said that's what we needed.

Its fun having a morning with this two year old!

DDD November 23

Daniel is such a helpful guy. He often volunteers to "flush Elsie's
poopies" and then he puts the diaper in the dirty diaper pail, washes
his hands with soap, and comes back to us with a fresh diaper for his
sister to wear. Its great to have a diaper-change helper!

Print Recognition

In the last year, Daniel has started to call out familiar words.  I think this is a key example of him understanding print concepts about communication.  He is starting to pick out letters in each word and to know the word when its out of context, of even in a different font.

HyVee - He loves that we buy so many generic products from this store!  HyVee is one of his favorite places to visit.
Baking Soda - this is the second thing he recognized, and I didn't realize how many Arm and Hammer products we have in our home!  This logo surprised me the most because it happened so quickly from when we were baking and then doing laundry using baking soda that he could transfer between the two contexts.

Aunt Jemima - He really surprised some people in the pancake aisle when he read this logo!
Bass Pro
John Deere
Dr Pepper - which he calls DP, just like I do.

Exploring Corn Cobs

Backing into a corner

If you see Daniel in a corner, it does not mean he is in trouble.

It usually means he is trying to hide from the camera or shirk a responsibility.
It can also mean that he is pooping.

Amusing Malpropism

Today we were talking about Thanksgiving. I took out two ceramic figurines/dolls that depict Native Americans. I told DHH that people often call these people Indians, but really, its more correct to say Native Americans because they live in American and not in India.  We continued to discuss their clothing and the food they were holding.  He played with them and made them to stand and dance in his box of beans.  I asked what game he was playing.

He said, "Naked Kids Game."

Excuse me?

"These guys.  Naked A kids. Indians. "

Oh, I get it. Native Americans.  We both laughed, but I was really laughing at him and he was laughing because of the word naked!

One of Daniel's naughtiest moments to date... sneaking my mascara from
the drawer, shutting the bathroom door, and walking back in the
bathroom like nothing was up.

EE and DDD for November 16

Elsa and I went to wake Daniel this morning. He request she cuddle in
the bed with him, and she gladly did it. He snuggled and tickled her,
and she tried to steal his binky and squealed in delight.

great time doing all the stickers, cutting, gluing, and coloring
himself.

Long Hair

This is the longest Daniel's hair has ever been! He's refused a hair
cutting since August, and three months later its mostly shaggy. The
hair is unevenly cut around the back, but the top is kind of cute and
spikey out of the tub. We'll see who wins this battle of the hair
clippers soon...we hope to get family photos taken in the near future!

Daniel is inspecting this corn cob and trying to wiggle kernels off of it.

DDD and EE for November 8, 2011

These kids have a lot of fun giggling together each day. The look of
adoration on Daniel's face is precious and a frequent sight. He
really makes her laugh this hard, too.
