Mommy Have Gasoline?

Daniel just asked me if I had any gasoline.  I was confused, and he told me that Nanny used gasoline to help make him feel better when he had an owie-penis.  

I think he means VASoline, but its a good joke!

Project 52, Week 6

My kids think its hilarious to web chat while they are in the bath
tub. My parents were really amused by them, too.

Project 52, Week 8

DHHtakes on a different tone of voice and manners when he steps into
the role of his sister's teacher. He becomes straightforward, non
violent, and perhaps a bit bossy.

Amusing Daniel Language

Daniel is a fluent English speaker.  He understands jokes and can often tell them, as long as they are the kind without punch lines and are more silly or ironic.

Here's an example:  Dan was telling him its not okay for him to touch guns, and when he sees one and there is no adult, he needs to instantly come and get Daddy.  Then he repeated, "Daniel, should you touch guns?" Daniel shook his head no, but then said, "Only with one finger?" Dan told him no, not at all.  Then Daniel piped up, "With only one toe?"  He smiled and was proud of his joke.

He makes grand statements such as, "No, not ever, ever never!" "Not at all, never"and "My faborite one ever"

At night when Elsa is fussy and they are both down for bed, we hear Daniel telling her "GO ASLEEP, Elsie! No talking.  Go a bed.  Its night time. NO TALKING!! Go asleep!"

DDD 2-21-12

Daniel is more than curious about any project I begin. I started to
make some bean bags for him and he had to hop in, work with the rotary
cutter, use pins, and practice with a pin cushion. He is an eager
worker.

A Big Success

Today Daniel used the toilet in a store while we were out today. It was his own idea, and he asked a clerk where the potty was.  She clearly had never been involved in potty training (I guess her own!) so she didn't understand his word choice or our urgency. Even though he felt very concerned about the Loud Flush Potty, he did it.  Which is great, since he had a large amount of iced tea and was wearing (regular!) undies with a plain diaper cover over it.  Way to go, buddy!  I was most impressed that he asked someone else FIRST, and then told me where we needed to go.  He's starting to listen to his body signals and take action!

DDD 2-19-12

Daniel gave his dad a hair cut as a strategy we used to help him gain
courage for his hair cut. He thought was really fun to do this, and
he did a fair job. He carefully put the clipped hair in a trash can
after each swipe of the clippers. He told us he was the barber, and we
were surprised he knew the word!

DDD and EE 2-18-12

I did it- behind again!

On Saturday, Dan put away the small tub and worked hard to get the
bathtub in order for use. He replaced the drain that had broken and
scrubbed for nearly an hour.

The kids enjoyed the change and bathe together most nights.

Now that Elsa can crawl and pull up wherever she wants to, we notice
that she has similiar tastes to her brother! Both really liked looking
at the pilot light in the fireplace at my parents' house.

Daniel and I make a list of what to do most days of the week. He
repeats whatever I say and writes it down. He will add something to
the list that he likes, such as Do Water Color Paints or Play on
Tricycle or Eat Waffles. Sometimes he makes shopping lists, too and
tells me later.

He is a better puzzle do-er than most kids we know, but its probably
because of all the practice he gets. Puzzle doing is a daily activity
around here.

Daniel really enjoyed being out in our snow on Monday and wanted his
sister to come outside, too.

Daniel had a lot of fun playing with Aunt Jess-E-ca this weekend. He
had Aunt Jessica playing Weg-Os with him on Saturday and on Sunday
they made a pineapple upside down cake together.

Daniel has never eaten a whole hot dog before. We always cut them up.
We haven't made them since the summer, and when we grilled last week
he wanted one that was a Regular Hot Dog. This is how he held it!

Daniel asks for me to do "prefooling time" with him each day. I
bought him a Kumon tracing lines workbook and some jumbo pencils and
he is in heaven.

DDD for 2-9-12

Daniel had such a fun time with the Hoemann babies when they were at
our house last week! He wanted to give Emma a bath, and it seemed
like him getting into the bath was a good idea!

Daniel was dressed and ready to go to his friend Caleb's house while
we went to a cardiology appointment for his sister. He brought along
a few trucks in his back pack.

We took Daniel and Elsa to get photos with Charlotte and Emma Hoemann
today. There was only one photo that had all four kids in it looking
semi-happy. And here it is!

Daily Dose of Daniel for 2-6-12

Daniel was so happy that I agreed to let him have a "mussin picnic"
one morning. He still loves muffins and would eat them for every
meal. He was also happy that I let him stay in his jammies most of the
day, even though it meant a little extra work for this potty training
boy. And because he didn't have any fits the day before, he got to
watch one of his Mickey Movies, so probably it was his best day ever -
muffins, jammies, and Mickey. That's the way to his heart!

DDD EE 2-5-12

Daniel earned a Mickey Movie for no fits the previous day, and Elsa
was curious about his muffin. Later I found her eating the banana
peel, so I think he shared with her!

DDD and EE Feb 4, 2012

We watched a concert on PBS and Daniel asked to get our box of
instruments down. Both kids loved being noisy with their lungs, too.

DDD 2-3-12

Daniel loved the attention of my students, who are all early childhood
education majors. He showed off his preschool skills to them and
found many laps to sit in.

Family photo taken by one of my Korean students, 7:30 PM on Wednesday
at a graduation dinner. The kids were handling the paparazzi like
photo shoots pretty well for so late at night and so little experience
with a dozen screaming Korean college girls and greasy food bars.
And Dan was a good sport.
