Letter C Preschool Painting

First of all, DHH calls it Freepfooling.

He has shown more interest in making letters and writing. He has not had good enough in fine motor skills or in patience to do much writing. I think age has helped, as well as doing water color painting.

We do activities daily, but not all are as structured as this one.

Today we identified letter C in various texts. He could easily do this last year.

Then we practiced doing them. He could easily trace on top of my C and wanted to move onto the painting. He chose a fat red crayon to do the tracing and was VERY precise. Daddy and Daniel have been practicing tracing letters in sidewalk chalk so he was skilled and familiar.

He was eager to paint a C I sketched for him. He did think it was a very silly idea to use a carrot and asked why we would do that. We did some phonemic awareness and he has been making Ca Ca Ca noises as he paints. It's not correct to add a vowel sound after the consonant, but I think it's okay for today.

It took five minutes. When he was
Persistent and precise, just like his dad is when he works. He was not so careful just a few months ago.
He declared it a MU letter, which I think he recognized that the C looked like a sideways U.

He wanted to paint something else and since we already had the orange paint out, I found a wooden cut out I bought at Michaels last year (prematurely, he was still licking paintbrushes last October I think). I was able to type this post as he painted the pumpkin, so this activity was a long sustained one! If he didn't need the company an benefit from he conversation, I could have easily exercised. Then again, who knows what would have also been painted orange with so little supervision!!

- note: 25 minutes into activity he told me he was tired of using the carrot, and I suggested a paintbrush to finish project.
